PJ and The Hare is a Small Shop with Big Ideas.

It’s situated on the High Street in Cuckfield, West Sussex and sells children’s books, gifts and clothing.

The name of the shop is taken from the two main characters in the children’s books that I write. My series about The Magnificent Moon Hare (published by Award publications) can be bought in the shop, in bookshops and online. The characters can also be seen on the shop windows!

I love children’s literature and I was introduced to books at a young age. I enjoy seeing my customers choosing books for their children, each one becoming a memory of a time spent reading with them.

As my shop is small, I choose the books very carefully, only stocking those I think have the best illustrations and stories and I’m especially drawn to books that have a feeling of nostalgia about them, and those that are so beautiful you just have to take them home.

The clothes in the shop are made from organic cotton and I look for quirky and unusual patterns and designs. I buy these from businesses based in the UK as we have such great designers here.

I avoid selling plastic toys as I think it’s unnecessary as there are so many beautiful gifts for children that don’t use it.

A lot of my shop is taken up with the Danish brand Maileg.

Maileg toys are all handmade, of great quality and full of character and the shop has become known for the Mouse House in particular, with many of my Smaller Customers bringing the mice gifts and showing me pictures of their own Mouse Houses!

The shop means a lot to me, it’s where I write, chat, drink tea and eat way too many biscuits.

I hope that the shop makes you smile as you enter it and has a warm and magical feel.
